Airlock Launches Secure Cloud Hosting

(The Hosting News) – Airlock, secure cloud hosting made simple, today announced the launch of the Airlock Secure Cloud Platform. Airlock’s private, secure cloud offers affordable pricing on enterprise-level security features like intrusion detection, hardware and web application firewalls, DDoS mitigation and malware scanning. Airlock also integrates a supercharged global CDN, easy DNS management, and quick deployment of more than 60 apps and development frameworks.

“When I was a security consultant I built a number of custom security solutions, but only large corporations with massive budgets could afford true, enterprise-level security in the cloud,” said Airlock co-founder and CTO Austin Saucier, who built the Airlock cloud platform from the ground up. “Airlock provides a solution for small businesses, developers and startups, and includes the superior security features they need to reliably protect their sites and apps.”

Every Airlock secure cloud comes with:

  • Hardware and Application Firewalls
  • Customer Isolation
  • Malware Scanning
  • Vulnerability Monitoring
  • Log Monitoring
  • SSH Management

And protects against:

  • Session Hijacking
  • Brute Force Login
  • DDoS Attacks
  • IP Spoofing
  • SQL Injection
  • Cross-Site Scripting
  • Side-Channel Attacks
  • Packet Sniffing

“With Airlock’s managed security, our customers don’t have to spend nights responding to server errors or beating off a DDoS attack,” said co-founder and COO Peter Lanier.

A Cloud Platform Built for Developers

Airlock’s control panel was designed to be beautifully simple; perfect for beginners, but powerful enough for experts. The control panel offers quick access to user permissions, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates, firewall settings, load balancers, DNS, auto-scaling, server snapshots, real-time usage charts and full web console access. Airlock’s cloud server controls allow users to create, scale, rebuild, clone and backup cloud servers in a snap.

“I’m a fan of simple design,” said Saucier, “so I made Airlock’s control panel really easy to use. This means that even a beginning web developer can launch a Ruby on Rails framework in a secure cloud without spending hours reading how-to forums.”

In addition, Airlock partnered with JumpBox to integrate its entire library of more than 60 fully functional applications and development frameworks like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, LAMP, Magento and Ruby on Rails, plus the top Linux distros like Ubuntu, CentOS and Fedora.

Airlock’s Blazing Fast Cloud Technology

Airlock’s cloud infrastructure is built on top of high-performance dual quad-core HP Blade servers, with dedicated ECC RAM and StorageWorks iSCSI clustered SANs for spectacular performance and maximum reliability. All of Airlock’s cloud servers come with a premium, 1Gb/sec burstable network interface and top-tier bandwidth.

Airlock also offers a supercharged CDN with 133 locations in 39 countries, which can increase content delivery speed by up to 70 percent.

Bringing the Benefits of the Secure Cloud to Everyone

Airlock’s efforts to make secure clouds simple and affordable stem from its founders’ belief that the right business model can bring positive change to the world of technology. By providing access to affordable enterprise cloud security, said Saucier, Airlock saves companies money, provides greater protection from security threats, and assists entrepreneurs on the path to success.

“There are enough risks in business, without factoring in cloud vulnerability or the growing number of cyber criminals,” said Lanier. “Companies we’ve talked to cite security as their No. 1 concern about the cloud, and Airlock offers an attractive alternative with managed security around the clock at a price that beats popular cloud services.”

For more information about Airlock’s easy-to-use and affordable secure cloud, please visit www.airlock.io.

SingleHop Launches Cloud Powered Via VMware

(The Hosting News) – Hosting company SinhleHop on Thursday unveiled the launch of a new VMware-enabled cloud solution.

Made for a single-tenant environment, the private platform is made possible through vSphere.

“Our VMware Enterprise Private Cloud stands out in the market because it enables users to deploy any number of virtual machines with no fluctuation in costs, as there is no hourly billing or per-user fee,” commented SingleHop Chief Operating Officer Andy Pace via a press release.

Features of the cloud, meanwhile, include things such as automatic failover, autoscaling, live migrations and more.

Pace’s comments also appeared to focus on the solution’s efficiency. “Organizations can use it to deploy resources much faster to individual departments, because they can create and destroy virtual machines on the fly. It’s ideal for companies that have concerns relating to privacy or need to meet certain compliance standards that cannot be fulfilled with public cloud options,” Pace went on to say.

The offering is custom-built wherein users can launch an unlimited amount of virtual machines and manage apps via vFabric Suite.

SingeHop provides a range of services such as public cloud, apps along with dedicated servers. The latest launch from the company follows a February announcement in which SingleHop debuted an enterprise-class public cloud.

Aria Systems Adds Deployment Options

(The Hosting News) – Aria Systems, experts in cloud-based subscription billing, today announced three deployment options for enterprises requiring greater performance and increased control of their data and datacenters.Options include 1). Multi-tenancy – standard SaaS; data on secure, shared servers 2). Private Database – data located on secure, dedicated servers – for companies who want greater capacities for higher performance during spikes and peaks 3). Private Appliance – data, infrastructure, and processing on private, dedicated appliance; no shared components – for companies who desire complete control over their data or datacenter.

All of Aria Systems’ customers enjoy the state-of-the-art security that comes with today’s enterprise-grade SaaS software solutions. However, Aria Systems’ customer service team listened to customers asking for greater control and higher performance for their datacenters and Aria responded by offering the Private Database or Private Appliance options.

“These additional options are especially significant for large enterprises who own their own datacenters,” said Oleg Ganopolskiy, Vice President of Production Operations, Aria Systems. “Like Aria’s ‘Live Release’ capability, Aria’s ‘Private Database and Appliance’ deployment option is unique to Aria among cloud-based billing system providers.”

Now enterprises can enjoy the widest set of deployment options available from a cloud-based subscription billing provider.

About:

Aria Systems delivers the full power of subscription commerce to transform business by creating new revenue opportunities, improving customer relationships and providing more business predictability. Omega ATS Selects Cologix Data Centre

(The Hosting News) - Cologix™, a network neutral interconnection and colocation company, announced today that Omega ATS, a leading Alternative Trading System (ATS) that provides the Canadian marketplace with a fast, low cost, strict price/time priority trading platform, has chosen Cologix’s new 905 King Street West data centre as a strategic site for their customers to directly access their order matching services.

“Cologix’s new facility at 905 King Street will satisfy the most pressing need of the financial community, which is availability of space and power for our growing subscriber demand in downtown Toronto,” stated Omega’s CEO, Brian Crew. “Perhaps more importantly, we have been concerned about the absence of data centre options with true network neutrality, low latency connectivity to the financial infrastructure at 151 Front Street as well as access to network routes to financial hubs that offer diversity from 151 Front Street and the potential for further improvements to latency for the financial community. Cologix’s new facility at 905 King Street addresses each of these elements and we are pleased to be a part of what we believe will be a new era in financial network connectivity in Toronto.”

Through their 905 King Street deployment, Omega ATS gains a strategic presence to onboard new subscribers and vendors for their matching engine within the 20,000 SQF data centre. 905 King Street will serve as a natural extension of 151 Front Street by utilizing a Cologix-controlled diverse fibre ring with better than 0.016 Millisecond latency or as a stand-alone facility where customers have the ability to connect around 151 Front Street. With the upcoming launch of the 905 King Street West facility, Cologix will operate over 50,000 SQF in downtown Toronto, including a significant presence in the primary carrier hotel at 151 Front Street.

“Omega has been a thought leader within Toronto’s financial community highlighting key network and infrastructure requirements to support Toronto’s continued growth as a leading financial centre in North America,” stated Sean Maskell, President, Cologix Canada. “We are gratified that Omega shares our view of the potential of the 905 King Street facility and look forward to continued engagement to best support Omega’s infrastructure and its marketplace participants going forward.”

Web Presences Participate in April Fools’ Day

(The Hosting News) – Today marks the beginning of April – and with it, comes some pretty interesting pranks. For their part, top web presences took part in the festivities.

Google showed off a fake, new service known as “Nose” – providing what it said was the “sharpest olfactory experience available” – allowing Google-enabled devices to display search results based on smell.

Meanwhile, via a blog post, YouTube said its eight years of existence to date had simply been a “contest” for best video. The company detailed plans to shut down the popular website following the selection of a winner

Social networking wasn’t excluded. For its part, Twitter announced Twttr – noting it was eliminating vowels minus “Y” while allowing them to still exist via a monthly fee of five bucks.

“Twttr will roll out slowly to a small percentage of users, growing to 100% over the next few days. We recommend that you practice using only consonants (and “y”) with the hashtag #nvwls (or if you have paid for our premium service, use #icanhasvowels),” explained the social network via a blog post.

Vimeo changed its homepage to “Vimeow,” noting its change to a site for uploading cat videos.

Fixing Trouble with cPanel Port Access

To access cPanel’s web-based control panel, you will need to access a non-standard port. The default cPanel port is 2082 for unencrypted connections and 2083 for encrypted. You do not have to append this port number to your URL, as your normal cPanel URL (yourdomain.com/cpanel) should redirect to it. In some cases, however, it may not work. In the event that it does not work, there are a few possible causes.

1. Your firewall is blocking it. This is the easiest to fix. If your firewall blocks cPanel’s port, all you have to do is open that port and proceed as normal.

2. Your ISP is blocking it. This is a bit more difficult. If your ISP is blocking cPanel’s port, you may need to find an alternative method of accessing it. Depending on your web host and the configuration it offers, you should be able to use an alternative URL to access cPanel through port 80 (the standard web port).

3. Your office is blocking it. If you run the office, you should be able to unblock it rather easily. If you do not and you can still justify using your cPanel installation during work hours, you should talk with your supervisor about getting it unblocked.

If you are still not able to access cPanel, you may have to use SSH tunneling, a proxy, or a VPN to access your website’s control panel. You can find free and premium options for all of these solutions.
